Self-Directed Project Analysis Courses (4 weeks)

The Clean Energy Institute of GPEKS delivers over a dozen Self- Directed (self-paced) renewable energy project feasibility analysis courses that expand from RETScreen material and other tools for project feasibility analysis.

These courses are distance learning courses delivered via a Web based (online) learning Management system. Participants are introduced to the knowledge required and tools available to enable stakeholders to decide whether or not to proceed with a potential clean energy project. In these 4 weeks distance learning course (estimated to a total of 40 notional learning hours), participants will learn about:

  • the opportunity/risk factors of clean energy projects, including technical, technological, environmental, financial, organizational and regulatory;
  • the most appropriate technologies, types of systems and design options given various needs and situations;
  • the use of RETScreen and other tools to evaluate the energy production, life-cycle costs and greenhouse gas emissions reduction for a clean energy solution;
  • the elements of a pre-feasibility study based on a case study and a project feasibility analysis methodology template.

Knowledge is evaluated via three multiple choice exams. There is no facilitator feedback or team work involved in these self-directed courses. Differences between the self-paced and certificate version of a course are detailed here.
